The 60th Anniversary Celebration (1959-2019)

Dear Alumni,

As you know, our department was established in September 1959 under the direction of Ralph Bradley. In 2019, the Department of Statistics at Florida State University will be 60 years old.  On Friday April 12 and Saturday April 13, 2019, the Department of Statistics at Florida State University will hold a conference entitled “Statistics, the Impact of Big Data” to celebrate this anniversary at the FSU Turnbull Conference Center.  We would like the celebration to include as many talks by our alumni and former faculty as possible.  We, therefore, invite you to attend the conference and, if you desire, to give a talk (technical or non-technical) during the conference.  We would be delighted if you could attend regardless of whether you wish to give a talk.

For planning purposes, we would appreciate it if you would let Wei Wu, the chair of the conference committee, at wwu@stat.fsu.edu know whether you will attend and if you are attending, whether you would like to present a talk.  If possible, we would appreciate your response by November 30, 2018.  We sincerely apologize, but our present budget of does not allow us to offer travel support to the conference.

The following members will serve in the Advisory Committee of the Celebration: Myles Hollander, Pi-Erh Lin, Duane Meeter, Jayaram Sethuraman, Douglas Zahn, and Bob Clickner. You will receive more information about local hotels and other arrangements from Wei Wu.

We would be delighted if you would come to the festivities and help us celebrate the past and move into the future.  We look forward to your response and to seeing you at the conference.

Best regards,

Xufeng Niu
Professor and Chair
