Come to Florida's First Coast for The 2001 Florida Chapter Meetingsof the American Statistical Association!

Make your plans to attend the annual Florida Chapter ASA Meetings on Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th  at the site of the old Cowford ferry crossing now known as Jacksonville.  This year, the host is the University of North Florida.

Registration: Non-student registration for the meeting is $15 in advance, $20 at the meetings;  registration is FREE to all students.  To assure a place at the Friday night banquet, mail your reservations by January 27th together with $20 per person to cover dinner.

Another exciting program is on tap, with John Spurrier (Univ. of South Carolina) and Dick Scheaffer (Univ. of Florida) presenting papers.  In addition to our usual exciting schedule, this year’s meetings will feature a panel on Teaching Statistics in the 21st Century.  Another provocative session will focus on the blossoming field of Medical & Health Services Statistics, and we hope to attract industry representatives from the Mayo Clinic and Vistakon, Inc. to the meetings.

The meetings will be held in the College of Health Building (Building 39 on the Map).  Parking is available in Lot 4.  A parking permit is required, please purchase at entry to campus.

Same-day registration (with refreshments) opens Friday at noon, and the first session starts at 1:00 P.M.  Friday evening is a reception followed by our annual banquet.  The meetings conclude Saturday at 12:30 PM following morning sessions and the annual business meeting.

Call for Papers: We also welcome papers for presentation at our regular sessions.  Deadline for regular and student paper submissions is January 19th.  To have your paper added to the program, you need to register in advance with the enclosed registration form and email the chapter vice-president, Matt Ncube, at mncube@uwf.edu with proposed title, author name(s), and a substantive abstract.   Please attach the abstract file to your email if it contains special characters and specify the file format so it can be printed correctly in the meetings program.

This year, we hope to schedule a pair concurrent sessions on the first day of the meetings if we receive a sufficient number of acceptable abstracts.  This format would allows you to choose a session that interests you most.  So regardless of whether your paper is on pedagogy, policy, theory, or application, send us your abstract.  We should have room on the program for you.

Student Papers: Graduate students are strongly encouraged to submit paper abstracts for our Third Annual Student Paper Awards Competition.  Last February at the Tallahassee meetings, the $150 prize was split by George Yanev (USF) and Shaojun Zhang (FSU), authors of the co-winning papers.  We eagerly await the next chapter in this friendly in-state university rivalry.
