Ralph A. Bradley
Professor Ralph A. Bradley retired as Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor in May, 1984 and was designated Professor Emeritus at the Florida State University. Professor Bradley founded the department in 1959 and was its Head for the next 19 years. The department owes much of its reputation for excellence to his vision and leadership. In recognition of his contributions and to honor him, the Department, in 1978, established the Ralph A. Bradley Student Award to be presented annually to the most outstanding Ph.D. graduate of the department. His many accomplishments include the presidency of the American Statistical Association, the editorship of Biometrics, and the Brumbaugh Award of the American Society for Quality Control. Professor Bradley joined the Department of Statistics at the University of Georgia, where he is now also Professor Emeritus.
Debabrata Basu
Professor Debabrata Basu joined the department in 1975, bringing strength to the department in the area of statistical inference and foundations of statistics.  His seminars were an inspiration to graduate students and faculty alike.  In 1985 he retired on a half-time basis.  In 1990 he retired completely from the department and was designated Professor Emeritus.  Professor was a Fellow of both the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the American Statistical Association.  Until his death on March  24, 2001, he resided in Calcutta where he maintained his ties with the Indian Statistical Institute.


 

Frank Proschan
Professor Frank Proschan retired as Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor in December, 1992 and was designated Professor Emeritus at the Florida State University. Professor Proschan joined the department in 1970, bringing new strength in the field of reliability. He started a Reliability Center, a Saturday morning Reliability Club, and inspired many faculty members and students to do research in the probabilistic and statistical aspects of reliability. His many awards include the Von Neumann Prize (joint with R. E. Barlow, 1991) and the Wilks Medal (1982). He currently resides in Maryland.

George Marsaglia
Professor Marsaglia retired in 1996. Named Professor Emeritus, he is continuing his research on random number generation and testing, for which he is internationally famous. The DIEHARD battery of random number tests is now on CD-ROM along with the latest random number generators. Information is available at http://stat.fsu.edu/~geo/diehard.html. He currently resides in Tallahassee and still maintains an office within the department.

Fred Leysieffer
Professor Leysieffer retired in 2003.  He joined the department in 1964, served with dedication, excelled in academic administration, and was named Professor Emeritus.  He served for nine years as Chairman of the department, two years as President of the Faculty Senate, three years as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and one year as its Acting Dean.  From 1997 until his retirement he was Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, overseeing monetary matters and budgeting.  He resides in Tallahassee and maintains and office within the department.
