STATEMENT
OF RESEARCH INTERESTS
My main research interest lies
in the field of nonparametric analysis. In particular, I enjoy
examining
problems involving data compression, cleaning up (“denoising”)
contaminated
signals, image reconstruction, and nonparametric function estimation.
One
of my preferred tools for examining these real-world problems is
wavelet
analysis. These wave-like functions excel at extracting the important
information
from a signal, and do so in a fast and efficient manner.
I am continually surprised at
the places statistics keeps popping up. It seems no field of study,
from
signal analysis to human behavior, is exempt from analysis via common
or
not-so-common statistical methods. This is what I find exciting about
statistics,
and why I choose to study it.
