Elective coursework must be taken that includes at least two 6000 level courses. The university requirement is a minimum of 44 total credit hours but the student will usually take courses beyond this minimum. The exact courses taken will vary and be selected in conjunction with the major advisor and according to the student's interest in emphasizing a particular area. Extreme flexibility is allowed in selecting the additonal course work, but some possibilities are provided for possible areas of interest:

Epidemiology and Public Health
Genomics and Bioinformatics
Interdisciplinary Option
